Pies

Whole pies, hand pies, mini pies, whoopie pies. Elsie Mae’s Canning & Pies has them all! Kelly’s favorite pie in the spring is blueberry banana cream. As the seasons change to warmer weather, everyone’s favorites are strawberry rhubarb and also cherry, Kelly says. Fall flavors include maple cranberry, and “tons” of different pumpkin flavors, including pumpkin chocolate swirl and pumpkin s’more. Customers need to pre-order their holiday pies from a special holiday list of pies. Flavors at Christmas include fruit cake pie, and mincemeat pie. Pot Pies

The shop’s pot pies are very popular, especially in the fall and winter when a variety of flavors are offered. Why did Kelly start serving them? She explains how the shop first opened in November 2012. A few months later, in March 2013, she’s nine months pregnant and finds out the ‘Kenosha Cash Mob’ is coming! This was a great opportunity to bring a rush of customers into her shop within a few hours of time. Due to the frost and drought during the previous growing season, Kelly was low on fruit for pies. What did she do? She created pot pies for the crowd. Chicken is the most popular flavor – with a recipe she used to make after pheasant hunting. Pork and apple is her favorite flavor. The Wisconsin version includes beer, brat, and cheese.

Jams

120 different flavors of jams are made in a year. The offerings vary by season, and each type is only made once. For instance, late June is when the strawberry flavors come out. Fall is Kelly’s favorite time of year to make jams. Visiting the shop on an early fall day, available flavors include: strawberry rhubarb, strawberry, carrot cake, chocolate cranberry peppermint, cherry, rhubarb orange, dandelion, autumn pear, peach cobbler, blueberry, gingered Asian pear, orange cranberry, and more.
